Rebecca Bryan is a quilter writer, author and proprietor of the company that is behind Bryan House Quilts. Rebecca Bryan has revolutionized the material world with her own line of fabric and thread collection, while teaching live quilting workshops. She began her professional career and search for a better way to support her family, she also wanted to take time out to explore her passion for artwork. The reason you decided to venture into the field of business knowledge?
My business in quilting began when I published my first book Modern Rainbow Quilts. After that, I began teaching in quilt shows and guilds around throughout the United States. Workshop offerings were also introduced with the release of my book 2. Modern Triangle Quilts.
My spouse was offered new job. He was also offered a new job. Then he moved our familyof four school-aged children who were in the Netherlands. The fact that we were located in the Netherlands meant it was impossible for us to return to the US for a visit to the school!
I was contemplating hosting my classes online however, this choice gave me the impetus I was looking for.
What was the initial online service you introduced? What was the primary motivation behind why you chose to sign up for this service?
As I began my first venture , in the new year I decided to launch my first course that I offer from my Modern Triangle Quilts book "Design Improv using Triangles". In my workshop, I teach the class by making use of a range of activities, which will lead them to create their individual Modern Triangle quilt blocks. This class was chosen for the reason that it was the most recent edition of my book, and I was able to see the extent to which it is similar to traditional classes lasting three hours or six-hour live-taught class. Are you able to provide any additional information about the efficiency of the sessions of training that you participated in in single trade?
I really enjoyed the entire digital experience to my class. First, I was pleasantly shocked. It was a amount of fun teaching on camera and also via Zoom. It's impossible to quantify the degree to which (painfully!) camera-phobic I felt. Being a role model for my students felt so fulfilling. Furthermore, I got to see my students, and they enjoyed time of discussions even though it was a virtual. All was great!
Over the next few months, I began offering additional online classes that started with a plan for the whole year. As we sew, we will refer to the quilt blocks as "Blocks that correspond to the Months" Every month, we create completely new sets of quilt blocks and then at the end of each calendar year, we stitch the blocks in a row to make a quilt. What was the motive behind your decision to launch the subscription-based product?
My collection of "Block of the Month" programs grew from 3 to seven. I also realized that I could supply my students the greatest benefit and help through bringing all of my "Modern Triangle" initiatives into one organization. For the month of March 2020 I made the first step to "Make Contemporary Triangles" the official association which encourages quilters to design, design blocks, and complete blockbuster contemporary triangle quilts.
Participants can select the quilt they'd like to work on as well as receive guidance as well as help from me. They're motivated by the urge to "bust the blocks" and work within an online community of quilters who share the same passion around all over the globe. The "Triangle Chatter" community is extraordinary! Every day I am amazed by the work and the photos of progress that members share.

It is my belief that Block of the Month Block of the Month products are a wonderful, fun and enjoyable course that I am able to make from my own perspective as the instructor. It's about bringing the process to life within the classroom; the excitement for the next one as the stacks of blocks grow; the regret of making an error; and the satisfaction of completing each stage and having the pleasure of saying "ta Da!" together! All of this is amazing and is part of the bond which we share in a group.
What are the lessons you learned out of starting your subscription , which you now take to heart in running your own business?
Oh, my. One of the biggest learnings I've uncovered alone, is that I do far too many tasks on my own. So, I'm constantly looking to find ways to reduce my workload.
When I started my venture I had a number of primary objectives was to be able to meet the family's needs without having to search for the "real" jobs. I began with my children who were infants with the expectation that my earnings could increase to the same level that I would earn from a "real" occupation.
I was looking to start an organization where I could be able to spend at least 25% of my time at my laptop and also spend all the time in my sewing room.
But, since I is passionate about teaching and sharing information, I was able to get lost through every quilt that I had made and even create an entire book about the quilt. You can imagine that this gave me lots of work! Also, it took me from my sewing area and away from my goal.
In order to make things easy and remain basic, I'm focussing (mostly!) upon my subscription. I've combined all my offers into one offer.
What impact did the subscription-based services have had for your business?
By focusing and simplifying the development of my membership the business has grown in value by 50% over the last three years (thanks for the delicious and sweet statistics!). I've achieved my dream to create a company which can help my family and me in addition to one in which I'm not dependent to my laptop. I'm able to work from home and make paintings.
There is no tension. I'm happy with the service I offer my clients. I find myself enjoyingwatching my members' work. Plus, I'm able to spend more time. I'm secure. The peace of mind that I have is a blessing to my life. While it's not perfect, I know what I'm building and how I can improve it . I also observe the growth and expansion to be expected over the coming few years.
Being a member of the company, I am less stressed. Most of the time I can assess the revenue of the business in the current year. Also, I'm not convinced that I have to teach the product I'm working on or create an entirely new product which could then be offered for sale. It's easy to concentrate on giving amazing information and connections to my friends and also conceiving that I think of for myself. Additionally, I'm always open and willing to change my schedule to care for my family.
What was the key to getting those results?
My goal for my company was to always be simple and now it's made sense. It's very easy for an online company to become complicated in just less than a minute. The tool makes things simpler and I'm here to support it. Everything I'm looking for is in the software as well as, in contrast to the tools (from the past which I didn't use ), I use exclusively.
What suggestions would you provide someone who wants to start a subscription based firm?
Get a lot of leverage into the "Beta" Version. Then continue to use your version "Beta" for the length of period of time you think you have to. I wished I'd kept mine in beta mode longer. From your Beta, find your strengths and make the most of that. Spend your time and energy polishing and perfecting what you do which work. Stay simple and in the forefront of simpleness. Begin your testing now. The longer you wait longer, the more complex your test gets!
