The Triathlete's journey to learn about commerce spans from coaching to courses to membership community

A doctorate degree in exercise physiology and conducting research that is peer-reviewed, as well as instructing Olympians and professional Ironman athletes wasn't enough for the Dr. Dan Plews. He also is an avid triathlete and the current Ironman Age Group World Championship Course Winner record holder. He ran the time of 8:24.36.
As a result of his win, and his education and expertise on the subject He was able to answer a lot of questions - especially surrounding the lower carbohydrate diet and the best way to use it for long distance triathlons.

Then the it was that Dr. Plews decided to monetize his knowledge with Endure IQ and added 'knowledge creator among his many avocations. Let's explore his journey.

The interview was light edited for clarity.

Coaching swiftly led to classes

In the beginning in the beginning, The doctor. Plews started out with one-on-one coaching. He acknowledged that there was so much he could do through one-on one consultations.

In the year 2019, Endure IQ got its start. "I received so many questionswhich I thought I'd just put this into an online course. At first, I thought, 'Oh it's easy to create an easy white course could be put up on PowerPoint'. Then, I talked with a friend and he said, "Well it's your decision do this, you may as well do it properly.'"

Now, there are four core courses as well as other mini-courses. The doctor. Plews says, "Our core courses are 10 modules in length and take 10 to 15 hours of instruction. Customers get access for a period of ten to 12 weeks as well as access to the instructors." The classes are accredited with affiliations including The American College of Sports Medicine, National Strength and Conditioning Association as well as USA Triathlon.

Courses take off

EndureIQ did a soft launch of their course LDT One-on-One. "We declared that we would be limiting it to only the first 50 participants, and it sold out in three minutes," Dr. Plews recalls.

The courses were a hit! The response, however, was overwhelming. The Dr. Plews quickly learned his class students would be interested in keeping access to the materials as well as the webinars led by instructors after they had completed the course.

This presented him with the dilemma of having to provide ongoing help. The way he thinks about this dilemma:

"I did not want to keep the course available indefinitely, since it gave students the chance to continue asking questions all the time that is at your of the whims and calls, and that's not how educational processes work. When you're an undergraduate student when you enroll in a course that you are enrolled in, you have access to the expert, your teachers throughout the course, but you're not able to inquire about them throughout your life."

Meeting customer demand and generating income

So that Dr. Plews discovered a way to meet customer demand and generate recurring income using the same course material. The solution was a $5 per week subscription for access to course material as well as webinars for those who finish the course.

"I added this subscription pretty much straight away. It's a great choice since we have a lot of repeat customers,"" the man says.

The price is $5 per week for the privilege of accessing every course that the student ever took, as a loyalty perk for those who take several courses. Dan has reported that he had 175 members within the education community during our conversation. Thus, he is able to generate a considerable sum of money each week simply by giving access to content of the course, and also being willing to reply to inquiries.

Subscription revenue opens doors

The subscription now brings an increase in revenues, and this income in turn opens up other potential opportunities for the company.

Dr. Plews says, "The major benefit to having the subscription model is that it allows you to plan your business better. If you're assured of a higher revenue stream and you're able to be a bit more knowledgeable about the company you're using and the places you're placing your money because it's less risky. Whereas when you're one hundred 100% dependent on revenue, you're never sure the month that is likely to bring."

Additionally, having an active membership community is another advantage - it creates a community of active members who could survey to find out about the creation of new courses, or any other feedback.

However, Dan is realistic about what it takes to maintain the success of a membership-based community. "The cons are that it's never off," he says, "There are a great deal of customer service associated with the subscription model since people always have concerns."
