What exactly is a Lute?

It is believed that the instrument was first introduced in at least the midpoint of Mesopotamia at least 3000 BCE. Instruments made of string were constructed using a turtle's shell for the body. This is why they have the round back that it is wearing up to the present.

Vihuela

The vihuela came into Spain in order to be an instrument with twelve strings that are connected. There are two variations of the vihuela: one that can be played with hands and the other that can be played using bows.

Tiple

The tiple is described as a variant of the vihuela which developed to the present shape after the introduction of it to Central as well as South America by Spanish explorers. It's now the standard instrument that is used throughout Colombia.

Charango

The charango is a variant of the vihuela-style which was highly sought-after throughout the Andean regions of South America, particularly with the Quechuan population. The first versions of the instrument were built with the help of the front portion of the armadillo. The charango featured strings that were tripled or doubled.

Oud

An instrument that is popular in The Middle East and Central Asia The oud is the most distant cousin to the European lute. It's a lute that has many of the distinctive characteristics that distinguish it from its European equivalent, but the neck is fretless.

Tanbur

Tanburs are a unique category of lutes that have long necks. It is played with the use of a plectrum, or bow. It is used in the music of Central Asia, particularly in Turkish and Kurdish folk music.

Pipa

Pipas are a vital element of traditional Chinese music. It has a wide range of interesting patterns found on lutes. Experts believe it to be the ancestor of many different Eastern instruments, such as the biwa instrument that comes from Japan.

Banjo

The banjo has evolved into an extremely well-known instruments of American music time. Its roots are within the lute types of Western Africa. The slaves who were brought to America arrived in the Americas and brought with them the majority of their culture and customs including music. The banjo was an evolution of the instruments.

There's a distinction between Lute and Guitar.
