The filmmaker Mayumi Yoshida is forging her own way in her distinctive story
Mayumi Yoshida is being recognized for her work in the field of filmmaking It's intriguing to hear her discuss the background where she started her path in the world of filmmaking through fate. "I began my professional career acting in the field of theatre" says Mayumi. "There were a shortage of parts to play and it was difficult to find a variety of characters that I thoroughly loved in the depths of my heart which caused me to feel"Oh it's me.'" If the opportunity came up to raise funds for a film, which was in the smallest the length, Mayumi had the opportunity to go beyond acting as an actor, but also a persona, but take on the role of director - a deeply personal narrative of her life.
"That led to a variety of film festival"" according to Mayumi. "It inspired me to think"Oh it's possible that I could make a living as the storyteller and filmmaker, instead of acting." Since since then, Mayumi has continued to build her film career as well as collaborating with the artist Amanda Sum on artful music videos that break the mold and challenge the aesthetics of the genre.
"The greatest advice I've ever received from someone not me was from the one who advised me to become sure of my abilities," says Mayumi. This means accepting what she is doing regardless of any concerns about the work. "Don't keep from refusing to become the victim of yourself," she adds. "You could think like"Oh, it's too far for a change. Oh, but I won't get in. It's not likely to happen. There is no mention of the possibility. This has already been reported. Relax. Perform the shot and you will be astonished. It is generally successful. out."
We had a chance to speak with Mayumi before the premiere of the film she picked together with her team "Different from the previous" received an SXSW Jury Award for Best Music Video during 2023's SXSW festival. Take a look at the highlights of the conversation below. You can also listen to the full interview.
What subjects you'll return to in your job?
Mayumi The subjects I usually investigate in my films seek a sense of identity. The same is true for families. main focus. It appears that a significant part of my films stem from the family connection, thus relationships between families, or even among generations, or cultural issues related to cross-cultural issues could be related to my type of things.
Do you have the ability to persevere?
Mayumi the best aspect I like about film is the fact that it is alive throughout the years. Your story that you tell for the film will become an archive, and it'll live on through time, because they continue to play even when you aren't there. There are many films that were made in the past, and have had a direct impact on my day-to-day living. If I could be a vehicle for stories that lived forever, that was one of my goals in the wake of making films I adored. I was thinking to myself "Ooh, there's something more. Beyond posting about the items I'm obsessed with."
Let us know your thoughts about your experience with the Staff Pick experience.
Mayumi The process was a blast. It really was a huge hit with all of us as the film had an important message for the political scene that we wanted to spread it with greater audiences, not only since everyone involved worked extremely hard in the making of the film. It was due to the messages that needed to be delivered at the date, but also because of. The release was during Asian Heritage Month, so it was important that viewers were aware of and influenced by the message. Staff members on the other hand helped in promoting this. I was very grateful for that.
I had been very informed about Staff Picks. I thought "Oh it's an interesting group of people." Then I thought "Oh what does it matter to me being a member of this group?" It occurred to me that these are simply incredible people who get together. I'm honoured to be an integral part of this group.
What's next?
Mayumi my next project I must complete is the initial film, which is inspired by my short film AKASHI. The process has been lengthy and I'm happy to shoot this. I'm really excited to show it at these incredibly cool gatherings - and to show it off to others and in the future in the near future.
