What are the motivations to begin online education?
Flash was released in 2004. Marlene was a professor of photography for her class at the local community college. Marlene enjoyed having direct contact to her pupils. She was full of energy, yet she was exhausted.
Her demands grew for her. She was unable to make enough time to relax whenever she wanted to: "I was just teaching all day long."
Her goal? She would like to be flexible , and stay in a state of being flexible with her schedule.
Marlene states, "I want to enjoy my life... my time is short. I'd love to get a skateboard! I'd like to ride my longboard by the conclusion of my workday without being embarrassed."
The desire to be free and flexible led her design a new on-line course.
From where did she gather the ideas that she developed?
Marlene was a student at various online photography classes. Marlene found herself disappointed because it appeared "clunky." Marlene was thinking about herself "this ought to be altered in order to make it more user-friendly."
Then she started looking for ideas for her own courses. In the fall of 2010 the instructor began the first course online that was created by ..
Marlene has eight online courses available on the internet Some of them she's taught by various groups of students.
Her courses include small inexpensive specific, cost-effective courses. In addition, she provides longer as well as intensive classes (some lasting up to 8 weeks).
Marlene develops her programs in response to specific inquiries that people ask her in email messages "I've been asked this question around 10 times during the past 3 months. Maybe I'd like to develop an educational program around this subject!"
She is also aware of the kinds of questions that people are asked about. In the past, for instance, when she started getting requests about her videos she'd inquire: Have you got any suggestions on what you can do to create exactly the same kind of video that you've done?
Overcoming challenges
Marlene says she's got a major issue with sales "I'm normally not a professional salesperson."
As time passes, she's found ways to reach out and educate the general population and, later, to make students take a class.
She's currently offering the opportunity to receive gratis photography instruction via email. Following 10 free lessons you have the choice of buying a software.
Although she was apprehensive about selling initially, Marlene now says "I often offer classes that students can choose an opportunity that they enjoy and then purchase the curriculum."
An effective business model built upon classes
One of the most important things to take away from Marlene is that the education system as well as the services (one-on-one meeting with an individual) are inextricably connected.
The courses she offers can open the door to an opportunity for one-on-one client service. After completing the course "people are simply looking for more help and are prepared to shell out for it."
In particular, students studying in a class that requires video will need assistance with editing and video production. Photographers will require feedback from a private tutor and technical help.
Her statement says, "My revenue has increased more through my clients than what I saw due to the classes I instruct."
Courses are highly valuable as an item their own and are stronger when they are paired with other offerings.
Marlene also adds value to her services by providing classes. Marlene says to clients "If someone hires me in my first year, I'll be thankful.
(for consultation) (for consulting) I'll provide the course for free." Her courses are attractive to potential clients.
Engaging students
Marlene makes use of her classes to build connections to her students and more than just the function of imparting the latest information. Marlene has observed that, typically "People have less confidence on the internet."
Engages students in conversation and active participation in the classes of instruction "I respond to every question, to all emails."
Marlene says that her work is fulfilling and satisfying for her "I teach, and I'm passionate about helping people... I love watching students achieve their goals! It's just like having the pride of a mother when you look at people in the video and present them with the footage with stunning white backgrounds I've assisted in the making of. My mission is to aid people who feel frustrated."
Future plans
The outlook for the future is positive for Marlene. Marlene wants to expand on the successes of her existing course. Marlene plans to "relaunching and revitalizing her existing courses, and creating appealing selling pages and raising the quality across all of her courses."
Also, she tries to design at least one or two courses per year based on the needs of her particular community. She elaborates on the reasons for this "I've ever created courses that are complete from start to finish." The mind of hers is constantly thinking how is being discussed by others?, and builds courses that meet the requirements from her students.
The instructor is looking to partner with other specialists to develop innovative concepts to develop courses. In one instance, she teamed up with a counselor in the creation of an initiative for personal growth"Take breaks" The Self-Care Photographer.
