A reason that some businesses are still not sure about learning via e-learning is that it's hard to determine the impact of the program.

A bit difficult, but not impossible.

Still, this can act as a deterrent (or at the very minimum an excuse to delay the introduction of an e-learning program). There is no surprise therefore that social-learning programs fall even further down the priority list.

Until now!

The people at Showd.Me have put together a great infographic detailing the facts and figures related to social learning as well as ROI.

While the presentation is somewhat tilted to emphasize the program's unique offerings however, the information included in the graphic does provide some talking arguments in support of social learning programmes in place of traditional methods for training.

The advantages of social learning are logical. People learn best from their colleagues, and the social element adds engagement than many of the online courses available.

From all the information presented in this graphic, the one that sticks out for me is in relation to retention of employees. A lot of people do not think of retention among employees as an indication of ROI that is positive However, when you dig into it, it begins to make sense.

Hiring employees costs a lot of money. The searching, interviewing, on-boarding and training takes the resources of many. If an organization's turnover rate is high, then they're spending a lot of time and money to talent acquisition. With social learning, however, it is less likely to happen so there's a drop of spending in this area.
