Painting and installation work - The CreativeMindClass Blog
Nicole Mueller is an artist from San Francisco. Her works include large-scale painting as well as murals and installations inspired by the look that stained glass can produce. Driven by process these abstract paintings are saturated and constructed using layers of collage-like patterns. Her work explores the complexities of color, states of flux, dichotomies within painting, the change of being, and the boundary between outside and inside, the tangible and intangible.
My background
I'm primarily a painter, living and working full-time as artist in San Francisco, California.
My experience also covers painting murals, installation work in addition to doing the field of arts administration as well as career development.
I took art classes at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in Baltimore in Maryland, where I resided for a number of years prior to moving into the west coast.

Another big part of my job and purpose is hosting Beyond the Studio with co-artist Amanda Adams, a podcast which aims to improve transparency in the art world by interviewing other working modern artists on their professional paths.
My style
Most of what I do is intuitive, driven by process, abstract, extremely saturated, built with color and layers of collage-like shapes.
I paint large-scale, light-activated window installations that mimic the effects of stained glass and murals. Through this series, I'm exploring dichotomies, changes in state, the boundary between interior and exterior, the tangible and the intangible.

About the key to making my work
I believe that that showing up regularly for your job is crucial. For me making a habit of studio work and setting myself goals to continue moving forward helped me prioritize my work when life gets in my way, as well as knowing when to step back and rest or take breaks (for a day, a month, or even longer).
