What's your story?

"My Name is Sylvia Boomer Yang. I am an illustrator, animator and GIF artist who is based in Brooklyn, New York. For my professional work I design animations, motion graphics and storyboards for explainers videos and applications. However, what I truly enjoy doing as a side project is create fun and unique animated graphics as well as stickers that help people smile and help them be themselves."

"I was born in Taiwan and was enrolled in high school for fine art when I was little. I always enjoyed drawing, but slowly I got stuck with a traditional educational method. I was feeling like I was unable to express my identity and voice using classical tools that art uses. Learning about fine art certainly helped me build the basis for who I am now."

"I switched to design in college and moved into New York for grad school. This was when I started experimenting using animations and digital art. Animation gave me the ability to blend animation and motion to convey a message with a lively method. I really enjoyed discovering how to bring still images to life."

What would you say about your style of animation?

"I usually enjoy expressing my personality through colorful, fun and quirky styles. I believe that smiles are the best way to evaluate your work. "

What are the most important factors to making your animated images?

"I am a fan of working with an empathetic sense and emotional energy that helps people feel at ease, while using different media, as well as creating an original design style. The process of designing can be really enjoyable!"

"Collaboration/teamwork is one of the keys I evaluate a lot. I love how team members generate ideas in the group, and I believe that good work typically is made by a collection comprised of individuals with different strengths and skill sets.

In daily life, I'm always creating new things that make me feel inspired. When not designing, or creating motion graphics, I could be seen making a mess in the kitchen (lots cook!) or making crafts. I often travel to Brooklyn farmers markets and experiment using various recipes at my home. The world is full of amazing things. I am a sucker traveling and exploring different cultures, new communities, and art that is innovative."
