When Pooja Bavishi decided to launch her company for ice cream, Malai, she had an unambiguous, individual view. "I came up with Malai in order to highlight the flavor of the food I grew up with as a first generation Indian American in a popular and fashionable style," she says.

"Everyone suffers from memories of ice cream that they had in their childhood. And most of them are connected to going to your favorite ice cream place for a scoop with loved people," Pooja says. This fusion of memories brings Malai to be a substitute in markets and local food halls to freezers in food stores, pop-up carts across New York City, and the bustling flagship shop in Brooklyn offering local and national delivery.
