When when she was a young child the New Zealand-based designer as well as artist Evie Kemp was a lover of art and design. "I was drawing every day, re-designing my dollhouse or watching makeovers of rooms on TV." In her teens, Evie says, "I became really insecure about being different and I would try anything to stay from being noticed."

The desire to be accepted made her go to law school. However, while she was studying law, "my mental health became poor," Evie says, "and I took 6 months off. That was the time, when I got well once more, that I focused my energy on figuring out what I actually enjoy, and I decided to enroll in the school of graphic design instead." Her return to her earlier enthusiasm for art has changed her life. "It was at this point that I was able to truly identify my unique voice, and to accept my quirks that I'd hidden aside for years."

Within the fifteen years that have passed since she decided to work on enhancing her expertise in the area she's passionate about, her determination and expressive voice has helped her establish her own business. "I discover increasingly that I'm more confident and lively and imaginative than I've ever had before," she states. "It's a bit like the old "Which one was it first, the chicken or the egg problem. I'm not quite sure if I get more secure and at ease with myself the more my work becomes more exuberant and lively, or if it's actually opposite. My style isn't something I would say is 'developed but it's certainly still developing."
