Ever since her early days as a young child the New Zealand-based artist and interior design consultant Evie Kemp was a lover of designs and art. "I was always drawing, redesigning my dollhouse, or watching the room transformations on television." In her teens, Evie says, "I began to feel very anxious about being 'different' and would do almost anything to keep from being noticed."

That urge to fit in was what led her to law school. However, during her time in law school, "my mental health became poor," Evie says, "and I took 6 months off. It was during that time, when I began to recover, I focused on working out what I actually enjoy, and I decided to go to school for graphic design rather than." Returning to her first love of art has had a profound impact on her. "It was at this point that I started to really identify my unique voice, and accept all the quirks I'd pushed aside for so long."

Within the fifteen years that have passed since the moment she made that choice to concentrate on developing her skills in an area she's passionate about, Evie's determination and expressive voice has helped her establish her own business. "I discover increasingly that I'm more confident and colorful and creative than ever," she says. "It's something like the old "Which came first, the egg or the chicken issue: I don't know whether I become more secure and at ease in myself when my work is more exuberant or the other way around. My style isn't something I would say is 'developed' though--it's definitely evolving."
