The year 2003 was in its first Australian Make It Awards to recognize the accomplishments of that are made by Australian entrepreneurs, entrepreneurs, and creatives as well as small-scale enterprises. Reef Design Lab is a multidisciplinary design and development company which designs marine habitats. Reef Design Lab works with architects, builders, governments and research institutes as well being marine scientists in a variety of sectors, including ecological engineering as well as coastal protection, marine infrastructure and coral farming.

Reef Design Lab plans to make use of its grant to improve the equipment in the lab it owns as well as speed up the creation of new products.

Lousy Ink

Two artists started the business. Lousy Ink recycles printer cartridge ink and creates a range of art materials that are sustainable, which includes recycled ink and pens. It works in partnership with Australian collaborators to acquire materials and reuse them, or reuse old, used cartridges for inkjets. Lousy Ink's mission is to transform waste into an artistic resource as well as support both the environment and arts community by encouraging eco-friendly creative processes.

Lousy Ink plans to use its grant to design various colored inks including cyan, yellow, magenta as well as black.

The Differential

The Difference is the only mobile application available that is available in Australia which allows users to collect virtual spare cash from transactions and then donate the money to cause it is committed to. The Difference makes use of technology that allows anyone to help contribute to sustainable development in the world by their everyday acts along with microdonations.

The Difference will use it to improve the tech-related services they provide as well as to support the Make Change campaign.
