When it was time to work on her latest novel, Cult Classic, author Sloane Crosley was unable to find the inspiration she needed in one location. She knew she was looking to write a profound look at love and dating, but parts of her story came from everywhere from her personal studies to the disused synagogue located in the Manhattan's Lower East Side.

That combination of resourcefulness and creative thinking is the reason that can help Sloane deal with the many needs of an experienced writer. Find out what Cult Classic was able to get the benefit of her studying the cult manifestos. Also, learn how she makes time for writing as well as administrative work, and how her site assists her in maintaining her online presence while giving her the liberty to throw in some fun surprises for those who visit.

Find inspiration for creativity within the ordinary

Cult Classic tells the tale of Lola an editor of a magazine located in New York who, though she's engaged recently, has some discontent in her relationship. In the course of a night, she runs into an ex-boyfriend, followed by another. Lola soon discovers the existence of a cult led by her former boss is intentionally putting the exes of these men in her path as part of an investigation. What follows is a funny and thought-provoking story about reliving the past and, maybe getting over it.

Sloane isn't able to pinpoint an exact "aha" moment that shaped this novel's concept, but her own experiences of wellness culture and modern-day dating informed the novel. "I believe that everyone who reads this book is the ultimate wellness and dating experts today," she says. "We're constantly absorbed in these topics, that they can appear as satire in the form of a novel."

The actress did some particular reading on cults in order in order to make sure that those specific details are just the way she wanted them. "I required manifestos or documents from within, so I could draw on the language for comedic purposes," Sloane says.
