How KevOnStage can help improve the entertainment sector

Oct 28, 2022

"I consider the most efficient way to tell the tale of the journey that led my to the place I'm at today is to tell the story of one person and one film at a go," is comedian and creator Kevin Fredericks - better known as his online name KevOnStage. Kevin talks at his studio and office located at Los Angeles, the epicenter of his most creative project to date: KevOnStage Studios. However, the creator of digital media isn't yet able to secure the production facility of Hollywood in few hours. The business of Kev has grown from an occasional side-job to an actual business in 10 years of working in the digital world.

"Before the path of comedians was to make the move toward L.A., get on the Tonight Show, and try to convince agents," said the actor. "Now because of the expansion of the internet it is easy to reach out to your personal supporters and become a household name." Since 2011, KevOnStage has gradually but steadily gained over 1M+ Instagram followers and 800K+ YouTube users, and has been uploading hilarious and funny videos to his loyal fans online and is often referred to by people in the Stage Crew.

"I believe that if you decide to create your own choices, I think that's important," adds Kev. "Right moment, I'm putting together my own show that I created and recorded and financed that nobody from Hollywood needed to accept. I'm able to design everything  and then present it directly to my audience."

   The basics of HTML0

Kev has been working on his online community more than a decade ago. Kev says it took only a few years to get going. "I haven't noticed any major outcomes as KevOnStage has been going on until maybe 2017" declares Kev. "Before I was doing my best, however I wasn't receiving many views, like many other people."

In the end, Kev needed to find the most important factor he could be doing when creating material that is true to his own personal values and convictions. "When producers don't follow their heart, it's exhausting" says Kev. "I have always been content with being able to not explode at all times, however, I was able to produce something I was passionate about. I believe it's because of that I've achieved more, as opposed to performing whatever it was I was doing."

The comics business started to grow in a significant way, Kev took to touring throughout his home state of the United States with other comics The flu outbreak caused these meetings to come to an abrupt end. Keen to think of ways to keep the momentum going, the brother of Kev came to Kev with an concept that he had developed on his own, which could be described as streaming online.

    Returning your power

Kev is the first to say that having an OTT service was an option planned for the near future, as the next stage in the business. "We initially tried to develop our own films. Then my brother told me 'I've discovered a way to create our own application eventually later on,'" Kev tells us. "I had not thought of it as a possibility."

Kev met with his business partner and producer Brennon Edwards. He suggested that they collaborate in the creation of the first OTT application. "It was a straightforward choice," says Brennon, now the company's president. KevOnStage Studios, because it allowed them to develop (and make money by selling) the content they create according to their own rules. "We live in a period where the hurdles for being innovative is considerably lower. It has changed the game we play."

"We were successful in achieving what we'd wanted Hollywood would achieve for us. Instead, we're now doing all in our own way," he says. "We interact directly with our fans this has proved to be an absolute blessing. They're the ones that give us the money for us to do the things that we'd like us to do. They give us the power back, as creators."

   Empowering fellow creators

Since the launch of KOSS Brennon, Kev and co-founder and Co-CEO Melissa Fredericks have consciously created an environment of creativity and support that helps other Black creators to come up with their own unique ideas. "I just feel happy for this space and that it has people who work there, that we allow people to follow their dreams within KOSS," says Kev.

The most amazing thing about this particular story is that it exceeds what is typical from us Hollywood is, and applies it to our own," Melissa says. Melissa. "We're having a positive effect on the people around us. We're not waiting for Hollywood to acknowledge your work. It is now time to take the decision, and we've made the decision on our own. Period. It's something we're able to handle by ourselves. Period. In addition, we give people the chance to accomplish things that they may not be able to. Period."
