Here's what you need from the Conference App of 2024. (plus 8 options) |

Aug 30, 2024

This year, several members of the Mighty Team went to Craft and Commerce ConvertKit's annual event held in Boise, Idaho. For us, the most memorable part was using an app that was used for the conference!

The market for event apps is expanding, with more than 72% of organizers saying that an app was vital for the success at a recently held conference. And G2's research found that 65percent of event organizers are planning to utilize a conference application for things like check-ins, AI, QR codes, as well as virtual reality experience.

In this article this article, we'll draw on both our knowledge and experiences to talk about what makes a great app for conferences. We'll cover:

  • What is the best conference app.
  • How to choose a mobile conference app.
  • 10 of the best conferences apps available.

What exactly is a conference app?

A conference app delivers an experience that simulates an event that is live, or hybrid. Initial versions of conference apps were basically mobile conference schedules. With the advancement of technology, conference apps have evolved to include more features that serve the members - things like tickets, management of members, and more dynamic scheduling.

A modern conference app is more than just an easy timetable. Tech can improve the quality of conferences. More engaging. More effective.

A conference app can be a software program that

  • helps attendees meet new friends.
  • allows attendees to develop contents and contribute to the events.
  • Manages payment, registrations, and tickets.
  • Delivers the conference on the app that you have created for your company.

We learned at a meeting using our application

Boise, Idaho was baking in the heat of summer. As the conference underway, we could feel the energy. It was a great conference with amazing keynote speakers such as Ali Abdaal and Cody Sanchez in addition to a presentation on starting a million-dollar community from our own CEO-Gina Bianchini.

Conference App - CK

Some of the magic came from a great line-up of speakers, an amazing venue, and most importantly-300incredible creators that came together to make it happen. You know. This is what every conference needs.

However, behind the scenes there was a different thing taking place:

  • Chat in the conference app was blowing up in "strategic selfies" (speaker John Meese suggested that we use them")
  • Attendees were organizing the event, adding posts and hosting their own amazing meetings for activities like white-water rafting and running and the hike to the canyon at sunrise (for those who could take the wake-up call at 5:00 AM up).
  • Creators shared what they had been working on and asking for help-and the mobile conference app was blowing up with responses!
  • When you walk around Boise, you'll see young people enjoying lunch at some of Boise's great eateries (and yes, this probably had potatoes, in some form or another).

and the application has made it possible!

The conference app wasn't just for scheduling and ticketing. It was an exciting virtual conference that took place along with the actual conference. The app certainly was filled with the conference basics, which was super helpful!

But it was those who attended that made the conference application come alive by sharing stories, photos and requests for assistance, and ideas for anything from business concepts to gluten-free restaurants located in Boise.

Here's what made it work so well. This is what you need to be looking for in an app for conferences.

What should you look for in a conference application

  • An agenda for conferences (obviously), but also RSVPs and session engagement inside the application.
  • Excellent communication tools to use for messages and sending emails to attendees  as well as taking care of support and questions.
  • Instruments to connect participants with each other: eg, high-quality profiles, social networks and chat as well as messaging. The real people magic in the conference apps is when attendees can find and meet virtual connections and spill onto reality.
  • Features for unleashing attendee creativity. Allow attendees to develop content, post photos, build short- or long-form texts, upload videos, and have questions. When the engagement happens within the app-without your having to do anything, it can increase the impact of your event. It keeps the momentum running until the next conference.
  • Registration, payments, and the registration. If your application is able to support the backend for your event, ensure that you have the ability to take payments as well as track lists of members and reconnect members at the end of.
  • It's easy to build, hosting, and supporting It should not take your entire team to get an app for conference on the ground, and running beautifully.

One of our favorite things that worked about the application

Natalie Paramenter

As we think about what made our mobile conference app successful We've got a few things we love about it:

  • Attendees organically shared the notes they took during sessions via the feeds for discussion that are specifically set up.
  • Live icebreakers that got participants in the app meeting other users in real life (ie. "Find another person who's about exactly the same height and snap a photo of them ).
  • Local Boiseans (is that right?) organizing meetups around some of the best restaurants in their area and excursions. (The karaoke was a highlight. )
  • A chat in the background before, during, and after the conference that keeps on giving. For example, Natalie Parmenter (the creator of Primary Focus), gave this shoutout in the video above, when fellow attendees helped to in making her debut a hit!
  • ConvertKit created recording studios and spaces for people to drop in and record content. (If you're ever visiting Boise, you can schedule an appointment to visit and make use of them free! )
