Information about the fiber artist Amanda Adams

I'm a fiber artist and illustrator who is based in Baltimore. I came to Baltimore in order for school at Maryland Institute College of Art. Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) which is where Nicole Mueller and I met and became friends before we started our Beyond the Studio podcast together. Over the last nine years I've worked hard to build my small art business Close Call Studio in which I am employed in full-time.

What would you say about the style you prefer?

My art style, whether it's sewing, drawing or drawing is not self-conscious, and meant to delight and inspire people. I can be moody and explicit and some of my pieces can seem a bit introspective, yet there's always an element of comedy and playfulness involved.

What are the keys in creating your artwork?

It changes from season to year, however having an attitude that is "no pressure" when working in my studio is a must to me at the moment. I've always put a great quantity of stress on myself, which did not reflect well in my work or the rest of my life. Creating space for rest and gardening are as essential to my process like sitting down and drawing.
