I talked to Lisa together with Leo Laporte, the husband-and-wife team that run TWiT's Podcasting empire and what they could do to build an audience so engaged with the brand they're excited to see commercials coming from you.

"When we started we were aiming for only an elite group of people that were tech-savvy. Now, it's like, "Where's the technology? !" Smiles Lisa Laporte who is Chief Executive Officer at TWiT. "It's totally evolved." The social aspect of podcasting was the primary reason for it to be a "logical development" of Chief TWiT's objectives in life and the main reason Lisa was captivated by new media.

The couple worked on their own podcasting empire over more than 16 years before the outbreak that began to grow in 2020. "Those few years were very isolated," Lisa explains. "We were all in small Zoom boxes. We do have an audience of technical experts that loves and wants to be part of an online community." TWiT had to come up with an innovative way of connecting to its fans at this point in time when they are isolated.

Lisa met with one of the sponsors for TWiT the tech-training platform ITPro.TV on how they can offer something back to fans. "Simply enough ITPro.TV allowed its users to chat online for up to an around an hour following dark. There were times when the players played games, but often just chatted," Lisa continues. "I thought, that's what I want to do. I had hoped to let our fans to have an area to hang out.

Lisa says that being able to add a Discord server in the membership options officially led to "a greater service" which was just the beginning of a new online community. "It was high time for us to provide our members an additional advantage; our members were bored of being locked in their homes." The Club TWiT team was ready to go live.

Lisa explains that she explains how the TWiT staff encourages their members to get involved in TWiT's activities in the most effective way. They ask for feedback on their viewers; they hold regularly scheduled Ask Me Anything (AMA) sessions; they have a place where people are able to meet and socialize. This is particularly important when it came to forums on the internet as the virus circulated however, it's now translating into actual-world scenarios.

"We are going to exhibit the photos we take, therefore it would be interesting to tell people"Hey we'll be at this event. Come join us for a photo walking tour and shoot!'" continues Lisa. The group is looking to hold many occasions in person. And in fact, TWiT is hosting a cruise with its 100 members. Leo and Lisa agree that, nearly counterintuitively that it's events in person like this that are really the "fundamental aspect of what podcasting is all about" and also what differentiates the genre from other media.

Lisa and Leo are also using Club TWiT to premiere and try out new shows. If the shows start to be noticed, it may be included in the Premium Club TWiT offering or become an ad-supported platform. In this case, Lisa will approach the host of the show and instruct the hosts to practice ad reads as well as include the show into their toolkit to start approaching sponsors. Every advertisement must be read aloud by the host to make it appear as a natural and integral element of the show.

Promoting your sponsors is more effective than selling them

At present, I have to double-check what I'm hearing. Lisa claims that TWiT members have entered into the shows to request the TWiT's advertisements to be connected. Start small is essential.

What can you do to create an organisation that customers like and trust so much they're willing to see the advertisements you make? "Really examine what's available and take a look at the ways others operate," Lisa suggests. "Look at the actions of others that are similar to yours and see what they're up to before jumping into the fray. Talk to me: phone me or speak to anyone who has been through this."

She advises "just slowing down" to consider different approaches and designs. "Don't take more bites than you're capable of chewing. If you try to do fifty things, you can't do those effectively. Start small with just a little like we started: "We began with AMAs."

Leo and Lisa discuss how Lisa and Leo discuss how the TWiT team is slowly, but steadily, figuring out what to do as they continue on the path. Now that they're getting grips of the process and are beginning to add to their offering with bonus information. "I do not want to give promises that seem too large, but not meet them," Lisa continues.

Lisa advises podcasters to examine every feature they offer through their membership program. "See the best fit for your needs and shop around for the most effective product.
