Protect your work-life harmony to build a business that lasts
1. There's no need to be following the latest trends in social media.
There's a feeling that a new marketing trend pops up every day. Trying to keep up could lead towards feeling overwhelmed and diverted away from your goals. Becky is making conscious choice to concentrate instead on the tactics and methods that are working for her.
At the moment, this means moving away from social media platforms that cause more stress than results.
"I am at the bottom of my barrel on social media,"" she says. "I've removed myself from Facebook that's great. It's the same with Instagram, I'm not spending too much time there either."
Becky's guiding principle, to let go of the "shoulds', also applies to social media, especially if you're trying to avoid doing too much at once.
"It is beginning to become a bit. The next step is to make an account on TikTok first, then I have to create another reel... that includes a photograph in addition to video. Additionally, I must have some really creative ideas for Twitter. And then I need to be able to post something on Medium. This is too much." Becky describes.
"I believe we're reaching this point of overwhelming in our society and people are starting to realize that they need to make a change in some thing.'"
Instead of making something completely new by scratch for every platform, find innovative ways to make use of the work you've already done. For example, you can convert an existing YouTube video into smaller clips to use on TikTok and Instagram Reels. The transcript of the video can be used as the basis of a newsletter or blog article.
What do you see when you are able toown your followers? They communicate using a method or channel that you control, like the email lists you manage, your online community, or website.
Here's the way Becky explains the importance of using email to control your customers.
2. Select long-term plans over immediate pleasure
Over the course of nearly two decades in the business world, Becky knows what marketing methods work best for her. She is now going back to the tried and true methods even though they may take longer to be repaid.
If you're building your business It can be tempting to seek out methods to market that yield results fast. It's easy to feel discouraged in the event that you do not see immediate success, but strategies that require time and energy upfront usually result in more authentic and lasting relationships to your target audience.
The kind of work Becky performs requires vulnerability and honesty from her clients, so they must be comfortable when they work with her prior to coaching. Consistent communication through her email newsletter helps establish that trust.
"Before the individuals work one-on one together with me, they typically get on my list of email addresses for 6 months or a one year period," she explains. "I'm regularly emailing them in order for them to meet my personality. Some of them buy something small but, over several years, the clients who will become my clients one-on-one will eventually invest in coaching."
The Gutsy Boss Podcast is another key piece of Becky's long-game strategy. "That's took a while to earn a profit," says Becky. "I've had my podcast for 4 years and am just now starting to get where every month I'm having increases in my audience."
SEO is the process of making your site contents, products, and content more accessible to users through the search engines. Optimized content shows up higher on search results when you type in appropriate words and terms. The more you optimize your content, easier it is for your target users to find it via searches.
Becky ran a content marketing agency prior to her transition into a coach as well as an SEO coach. SEO has stood over time throughout her careers.
"SEO is an old standby which works," she says. "SEO is a lengthy game, but it's one that can pay dividends. Instead of making one thing that has a shelf life of two minutes, SEO has a shelf life that goes through the years."
Since she has optimized her blog and website content with her specific audience in mind, potential clients are able to find her content through search. When they find it her blog, the content she has to offer and her unique insight keep them reading, listening as well as subscribing to her newsletter and frequently becoming clients.
"I became the obvious choice since there was no one who was able to answer the question this manner. If it was the last answer they got to and it was then the answer that resonated with them, meaning I answered with the manner they needed to hear it which is why they're likely to want to work with me."
Finally, Becky finds herself networking (what she calls"an "old school way for marketing") as well as using the network to reach more potential customers.
"Getting out and speaking to my current network, and engaging in old-fashioned networking in person for meeting new people... having the ability to be a part of others' audiences has proven extremely beneficial, be it gatherings or just working with others," she says.
What do all these strategies for building audiences have in common? They can help Becky maintain a vital balance between work and life, something that has become more essential than ever for creators over the past few years.
3. Protect your work-life harmony to develop a company that will last
"It was like all of a sudden all businesses were online company during the pandemic. It caused a massive burnout" Becky recalls. "I'm feeling it from several individuals: We're all sort of exhausted the demands of running an online company."
Becky focuses on finding ways to expand her readership and company without detracting from her lifestyle that she's created and hopes to lead. "I have a family, and I want to have an existence. I don't want my existence to be creating media all the time."
"How do I make most effective choices to allow me to live the life I want and still expand my audience?"
Growth and productivity can be wonderful things however, they shouldn't are at the cost of your mental well-being.
"I would like to consider what I do with my time the most efficiently and efficiently, not just because I'm trying to do more work however, I want to have a life."
